I think I should start with the fact that my seven year old loves all things science, math, STEM, and the like. She loves to learn how things work and explore the science behind it. So when I start to look for gifts for her during the holidays (or any other time of the year), I begin by looking for STEM related products. So that lead me to a great box subscription service called Groovy Lab In a Box!
Groovy Lab In a Box is a great little company that features fun scientific themed boxes delivered monthly through a box subscription service. Each month your kiddo gets a new box full of fun science projects. This month we learned all about electricity! Our box featured some fun projects related to and exploring electricity.
The first project we tried out was really fun. They included a couple of balloons to make your own static electricity by rubbing on your head. Then they also included some pepper and a straw so we could see that when you rub the straw on your head just like the balloon it will make the pepper stick to the straw. It was really neat!
The second project included had us making a simple circuit. The box included everything you need to build a circuit to light up three little lights. The instructions were pretty easy to follow. My seven year old needed help but was able to follow the step on her own for the most part. She had a lot of fun figuring out how the circuit worked and made the lights work.
Finally the last project had us making a buzzer work using a battery. It was really easy to set up and my seven year old had a lot of fun with it. The project included everything you needed (in fact all of the projects included everything you needed which was really nice). She was able to do it mostly by herself with supervision and had a lot of fun with the project.
Groovy Lab In a Box is a great gift idea. I love giving box subscriptions for gifts because they have a gift that comes throughout the year rather then just that one day. They are also great for kids because I don’t know about anyone else but my seven year loves to get mail. She is so excited every time a new box arrives. Groovy Lab In a Box is great because not only is it fun but it’s educational too!
You can sign up for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months. They also have some options to buy a specific box as well.
